Peak dry season in south. Calving in Serengeti. January offers excellent conditions across much of Tanzania. The short dry season is in effect in the north—the Serengeti is green from the short rains, and the wildebeest migration is calving in the southern Serengeti/Ndutu area, attracting predators . The south (Selous, Ruaha) is in the middle of its wet season—lush and green but challenging for game viewing .
Kilimanjaro climbing conditions are good, with clear mornings and occasional afternoon showers. Zanzibar and the coast enjoy perfect beach weather—hot, sunny, and calm seas . This is peak season in the north—book well in advance.
